ArmInfo. Iranian gas is not an alternative to Russian gas, as stated by Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure David Khudatyan to reporters on July 29, when commenting on the agreements reached with the Iranian side during his recent visit to Iran.
He noted that the agreements reached to increase Iranian gas supplies to Armenia are not related to any concerns. "These are working processes," he emphasized, recalling that Armenia and Iran have been successfully and smoothly implementing a gas-for-electricity swap program for many years. "During the meeting, we came to the understanding that there is potential for increasing supply volumes. I mean that the gas pipeline's capacity is greater, and after the construction of a new 400 kW power line, we will be able to increase electricity supply volumes," he said.
The matter, according to Khudatyan, will be the subject of discussions within the newly established Armenian-Iranian working group.
It should be noted that during David Khudatyan's recent visit to Iran, an agreement was reached to establish a specialized working
group in the energy sector that will address gas trade issues.
Recall, according to the RA Customs Service, Armenia traditionally imports approximately 80% of its natural gas and over 90% of its liquefied gas from Russia.
