ArmInfo. Azerbaijan is interested in aluminum foil supplies from Armenia. This was announced by Armenian Economy Minister Gevorg Papoyan during a briefing on the sidelines of the 8th Congress of the Civil Contract Party (CCP). "Azerbaijan made a specific request for aluminum foil.
It concerned a product with a specific code: the price was requested, as well as information on possible supply volumes and delivery dates. The Armenian manufacturer provided all the necessary information," he said.
After exchanging lists of potential goods for mutual trade, according to the minister, the most lengthy negotiations focused on aluminum foil. "There has been no response from Azerbaijan yet," Papoyan said. It should be noted that, according to the Statistics Committee, aluminum foil production recovered from a 23.2% decline in 2025 to a 4.6% increase, reaching 20.6 thousand tons.
Aluminum foil exports from Armenia in the first half of 2025 slowed from a year-on-year decline of 22.8% to 8.7%, reaching 9.2 thousand tons. Meanwhile, the customs value of exported foil increased by 29.3% year-on-year (versus a 36% decline a year earlier), reaching $40.8 million. Foil was primarily exported to Germany (64.5%), with much smaller amounts exported to the Netherlands (18%), Poland (10%), Russia (4.1%), and France (1.7%). The remainder went to the Czech Republic, Italy, Georgia, Belarus, and the UAE.
The only aluminum foil producer in Armenia is the Yerevan foil rolling plant "Armenal" (part of one of the world's largest aluminum producers, the Russian company "Rusal"). Rusal is currently going through a difficult period due to sanctions, which is also affecting the situation of its Armenian subsidiary.
