Deputy Minister: Armenia can transform from a country with limited accessibility into a logistics and economic hub

ArmInfo. Following the signing of documents in the United States last August, significant opportunities have opened up for Armenia. Deputy Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure of Armenia Asatur Vardanyan stated this during a briefing with journalists on October 16 on the sidelines of the international Mining Armenia Forum.

"Since we have rich natural resource reserves, and favorable conditions have been created for exploiting this potential and attracting new investments, Armenia can transform from a country with limited accessibility into a logistics and economic hub," the deputy minister emphasized.

He also spoke about upcoming legislative changes in the mining industry. Specifically, Vardanyan announced that the industry's reporting system will soon change, as we still use the Soviet methodology for accounting for reserves. Furthermore, digitalization of the sector is being discussed, and a geological exploration service will be established next year. "We are in ongoing discussions with industry representatives and already have a draft law, which we will soon submit to the government for discussion," the Deputy Minister said.

It is worth noting that the large international Mining Armenia Forum 2026 opened on October 16-17, bringing together representatives of dozens of mining and related companies from Armenia and abroad. The forum is being held for the third year in a row.

The forum will feature approximately 50 speakers, including representatives of international mining companies and financial institutions, investors, policymakers, sustainable development experts, technology providers, as well as representatives of academia and civil society.

The Mining Armenia Forum is organized by the Mining Forum Development Fund and the Mining and Metallurgy Association of Armenia. The forum's strategic sponsors are the country's largest mining players, the Zangezur Copper and Molybdenum Combine, and the gold mining company, Lydian Armenia. The forum's main sponsors are Ameriabank CJSC and Teghut CJSC. According to the RA Statistics Committee, the mining sector grew by 24.3% year-on-year in January-August (versus a 0.8% decline a year ago), reaching 489.7 billion drams. In August alone, mining sector volumes increased by 6.3% to 67.6 billion drams.
