ArmInfo. The state will allocate an additional 2.035 billion drams for the development of the scientific sector, which will be used to purchase scientific equipment and implement grant-funded research.

This decision was made at a government meeting on October 15. Introducing the bill, Minister of Education, Science, Culture, and Sports of Armenia Zhanna Andreasyan noted that these areas are a strategic priority for the ministry.

Presenting some of the funding areas, she said that the funds will also go toward the development of the semiconductor industry, which has high potential in Armenia. According to Andreasyan, 189 million drams will be used to purchase equipment for the relevant YSU laboratory, which will contribute to the development of the semiconductor industry. An additional 179 million drams will be allocated to the Institute of Chemical Physics for the acquisition of a comprehensive analyzer for dual-use research.

The head of the Ministry of Education, Science and Culture noted that since 2018, funding for science in Armenia has tripled, with tens of billions of drams already allocated for program implementation and equipment acquisition. "This has helped establish laboratories in our scientific institutes and universities that can conduct modern research, which previously required turning to international laboratories. And today, we can essentially conduct this work in Armenia," Andreasyan said.

Since 2021, she noted, 160 scientific programs have been implemented, and a total of 23.8 billion drams have been allocated.
