ArmInfo. Cement imports into Armenia are at a historically low level. Armenian Economy Minister Gevorg Papoyan told reporters during a briefing.
In particular, he noted that in June, cement imports amounted to 59.2 thousand tons, and in August, they reached 49 thousand tons.
While there is high demand for cement in the country,
imports from Iran, Georgia, and Russia have decreased. The problem isn't Russian
restrictions or duties, but rather that neighboring countries also have high demand for cement and are unable to supply importers with the full volume. Moreover, a queue of thousands of trucks has formed, and therefore, importers are unable to deliver cement in full," the Minister of Economy explained.
Papoyan attributed high prices on the cement market to a decrease in supply volumes due to high demand in importing countries. At the same time, the minister noted that construction volume in Armenia has increased by 25%, and, accordingly, demand for cement has increased by 25%.
