ArmInfo. The State Revenue Committee of Armenia has uncovered a particularly large case of tax evasion in the trade sector.
According to the State Revenue Committee, the Committee's 6th Investigative Intelligence Department received a tip-off that a company engaged in the wholesale trade of vegetable and animal oils and fats in the village of Zovuni in the Kotayk region was systematically underreporting sales, concealing tax liabilities to the state budget. To conduct the investigation, department employees undertook and implemented comprehensive investigative measures. Electronic data on the company's activities, internal accounting documents, and information reflecting actual business volumes were reviewed. After reviewing and analyzing the data obtained and comparing it with data available in the tax authority's database, significant discrepancies were identified between tax records and actual business volumes. It was discovered that the company failed to report approximately 359 million drams in sales revenue in its tax returns from 2024 to 2026. As a result, the state budget was not calculated, and over 100 million drams in tax arrears were not paid.
As a result, based on the materials received, a report was sent to the General Department for the Investigation of Economic Crimes and Smuggling of the Investigative Committee of the Republic of Armenia alleging particularly large-scale tax evasion, for which a criminal case has been initiated.
Currently, procedural and operational investigative measures are being carried out to clarify all the circumstances of the incident, identify the persons involved, apply criminal measures against them, and fully compensate for the damages caused by the alleged crime.
