Armenia's trade turnover reached AMD 3.2 trillion ($8.4 billion) in the first half of 2026, with annual growth decelerating sharply from 3.9% to 0.9%, according to data from the Statistical Committee of Armenia. In June alone, trade turnover increased 6.3% month-over-month, reaching AMD 586 billion ($1.6 billion).
Specifically, The overall deceleration in wholesale trade was primarily driven by the dominant wholesale sector, which reversed from 3.4% growth to a 2.2% decline, generating AMD 2.0 trillion in revenue. Retail trade accelerated in annual growth from 4.6% to 7.1%, generating revenue of 1 trillion drams.
Within the retail structure, stores (including supermarkets) account for the largest turnover - 83.5% or 846.8 billion drams (with an annual growth of 6.9%), other retail outlets - 10.5% or 107 billion drams (with an annual growth of 6.2%), followed by consumer goods markets - 3.8% or 38.5 billion (with an annual growth of 14%), kiosks - 1.3% or 12.8 billion (with an annual growth of 6.6%), and agricultural markets - 0.9% or 9.3 billion (with an annual growth of 11.8%). The volume of automobile purchases and sales in the first half of 2026 slowed from 8.5% to 6.6%, amounting to 129.4 billion drams.
Wholesale trade dominates Armenia's total trade turnover at 63.8%, followed by retail at 32.1%, with automobile purchases and sales accounting for the remaining 4.1%.
It should be noted that the average exchange rate of the dram against the US dollar in the first half of 2026 was 374.32 AMD/USD, compared to 368.26 AMD/USD in June.
