ArmInfo. Economic decisions cannot be guided by emotions, Hayk Farmazyan, a member of the parliament from the "Strong Armenia" bloc, stated on August 11 while commenting on Yerevan's relations with the European Union and the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU).
"Our trade turnover with the Eurasian Union stands at approximately $8 billion. I am merely stating this fact without any commentary," the lawmaker noted. He highlighted that unlike European and American markets—where Armenian goods are traditionally consumed primarily by the Armenian diaspora— products exported to the EAEU are consumed by broader local populations in Russia, Kazakhstan, and Belarus. Consequently, immediate diversification is not feasible.
Furthermore, Farmazyan pointed out that the core challenge lies with Russia rather than the EAEU as a whole, exacerbated by the lack of a shared land border between Armenia and Russia, which indirectly impacts economic ties with the EAEU. When Brussels speaks of countering hybrid threats originating from the north—a stance adopted by the Armenian authorities—it produces the current economic and geopolitical realities.
