
ArmInfo. The effective integration of agriculture and advanced technologies is a vital prerequisite for the development of the modern agricultural sector. This was stated by Mkhitar Hayrapetyan, Minister of High-Tech Industry of Armenia, during his speech at the Sevan AgriTech Summit, held as part of the Seaside Startup Summit Armenia 2026.
He emphasized that today's agriculture is unimaginable without big data processing, artificial intelligence (AI), image analysis, and the use of space technologies. According to the minister, these advanced solutions enable more efficient management of agricultural processes, increased productivity, rational use of natural resources, cost reduction, and timely response to emerging industry challenges, ensuring sustainable and competitive development of agriculture.
Hayrapetyan also noted that one of the directions of state policy is to stimulate scientific research and development (R&D) with the goal of transforming Armenia into a unique regional hub for R&D and innovation development.
Speaking about artificial intelligence infrastructure, the minister emphasized that high-performance computing power is a crucial prerequisite for creating new digital solutions in agriculture. In this context, he particularly noted the collaboration between the Ministry of High-Tech Industry of Armenia and Firebird AI, emphasizing that the AI factory being established in Hrazdan will provide significant computing power that will also be used for the development of agricultural innovations. When addressing technology development programs, the minister recalled that Armenia acquired its first Earth remote sensing satellite in 2022, and the government has now initiated the acquisition of two more remote observation satellites.
According to Hayrapetyan, the new satellites will provide the agricultural sector with timely and highly accurate data, which will enable timely assessments of the current state of agricultural land, making informed forecasts, and more effectively managing potential risks. The minister emphasized that this involves not only acquiring satellite images but also creating a comprehensive system for their rapid processing, analysis, and practical application. He believes this approach will facilitate data-driven decision-making, increase agricultural efficiency, and strengthen Armenia's competitiveness and technological independence in this sector.
In this regard, Hayrapetyan also highlighted the importance of introducing automated systems in agriculture, noting the need to develop robotics, which will automate agricultural work, increase yields, and reduce costs. According to the minister, such technologies will help cultivate the soil and care for crops more precisely, saving time and resources.
Concluding his speech, he emphasized that the primary task today is to unite the efforts of the state and private sector and accelerate all processes so that innovative solutions are introduced into agriculture as quickly as possible.
