ArmInfo. The Zangezur Copper and Molybdenum Combine (ZCMC) celebrated its professional holiday - Miner's and Metallurgist's Day.
As part of the celebrations, the company's management presented large-scale investments in production modernization and awarded 18 employees who have achieved high professional results. This was reported by the ZCMC press service.
The festivities began with a reception in the courtyard of the Kajaran Cultural Center, featuring traditional Kajaran sweets and a fair.
At the same time, a solo photo exhibition by photographer and longtime employee of the combine, Nver Zelyan, opened. On the occasion of the celebration, exhibits from the Kapan Geological Museum were also on display, documenting the development of the mining industry in the region from the Bronze Age to the present day. During the ceremony, attended by regional and community leaders from Kajaran and Kapan, representatives of partner organizations, industry specialists, and guests, following congratulatory speeches, 18 company employees who have distinguished themselves in recent years with high professional results and significant achievements were awarded.
Congratulating the miners and metallurgists, ZCMC CEO Roman Khudoliy emphasized that the company's success is built on the hard work of its people. In this vein, he explained that over the past year and the first half of 2026, the company has invested approximately 50 billion drams in purchasing equipment and modernizing production assets.
"This is an investment in the future of the plant, its modernization, and the introduction of new technologies. Over 7 billion drams have been allocated to implement social programs and support communities. ZCMK continues to be Armenia's leader in tax revenue," he stated, adding that the plant's importance is measured not only by production volumes.
According to Khudoliy, in 2026, the plant took important steps in corporate governance and sustainable development. He noted that ZCMK is the only company in Armenia to join the UN Global Compact, and over the past two years, the company's ESG rating has improved by 20 notches, exceeding the global mining industry average. "I am particularly proud that, contrary to popular belief, it is the mining industry that is achieving such success in implementing advanced business standards," he added. It was also noted that for the second year in a row, the Faculty of Geography and Geology of Yerevan State University is holding a three-day "Young Geologist Camp" in Kajaran for high school students from the Syunik region. According to the Dean of the Faculty, Sargis Kelyan, young people's interest in geological specialties is growing, fueled by the university's collaboration with ZCMC.
The Zangezur Copper Molybdenum Combine (CJSC) (ZCMC) is the largest mining company in Armenia. The company operates the Kajaran copper-molybdenum deposit. The plant's ore reserves are estimated to last approximately 150 years.
