On June 25, the head of the Food Safety Inspection Body of the Republic of Armenia, Tigran Petrosyan, received Rishan Chaudhry, the USDA agricultural trade representative at the U.S. Embassy in Ankara; Demnu Dzirkvadze, senior agricultural specialist (USDA) at the U.S. Embassy in Georgia; and Edward Eichler, head of the Economic and Commercial Section of the U.S. Embassy in Armenia.
According to the inspection body's press service, the meeting discussed issues related to the export of agricultural products and flowers shipped from Armenia to the United States, as well as to other countries via transit through Turkey; the issuance of phytosanitary certificates; ensuring product traceability; registration of economic operators in the TRACES system; maximum allowable levels of residues in products; and development of laboratory capacity.
The parties, taking into account the problems hindering the development of trade and economic cooperation between the two countries, emphasized the importance of adopting joint measures to overcome them. An agreement was reached to deepen cooperation between the authorized bodies of the two countries, which will contribute to increased trade turnover, strengthened economic ties, and the comprehensive development of the market.
