ArmInfo. Armenia needs to revisit the issue of quality standards, as their absence in many areas is damaging the country's credibility. RA Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan stated this at a government meeting on June 25.
According to him, the issue of product quality has been constantly raised by the authorities since 2018, but the situation remains problematic. As a result, the state's loyalty is beginning to turn against the country itself. In Armenia, Pashinyan noted, there should be no cognac made from wheat spirit, just as there should be no problems with dairy products. "For this reason, we, even in the Eurasian Economic Union, have found ourselves in a difficult situation. How many times have we been warned: get your act together, this time will come, and now it has. We must stop all this now. We've been constantly told that government intervention could harm business. But who needs such a business? We finally need to start working seriously," the prime minister said, adding that the production of low-quality products is hindering the promotion of Armenian goods in other markets. Furthermore, the use of imported alcohol in cognacs also hinders the normal development of local viticulture.
"We still can't estimate how much grapes we have for cognac, wine, or table grapes. We must estimate this using satellite and aerial photography-not only for grapes, but also for apricots and all other crops, so that such situations don't arise again," the prime minister stated.
He noted that the volume of Armenian exports to third countries is still far from what the authorities are expecting. For their more than significant growth, quality standards are necessary.
