ArmInfo. The development of livestock breeding in Armenia will be enshrined in legislation. At its plenary session on June 18, the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia passed amendments to the law "On Livestock Breeding" in the first reading.
Presenting the amendments and additions, RA Deputy Minister of Economy Tatevik Sargsyan noted that there is currently no legal act governing livestock breeding that would legally regulate the requirements for policy development and the implementation of targeted state support programs. As a result of this legal gap, authorized bodies in the field of livestock breeding often face difficulties in exercising their powers.
The draft law, as the Deputy Minister noted, proposes to clarify the concepts of "state register of breeding animals" and "breeding livestock farm," the powers and responsibilities of individuals operating in the field of breeding livestock, as well as the procedure for state registration of breeding animals, requirements for breeding farms, and the form and procedure for issuing breeding status certificates to farms, thereby ensuring regulation of the breeding livestock sector.
"As a result of the draft law's implementation, the principles for developing breeding livestock policy will be regulated, as well as the types and principles of breeding livestock farms' activities will be clarified. In particular, through the state registration and recording of purebred animals, as well as by assigning status to farms, favorable conditions will be created for the authorized government body to develop policies based on up-to-date data. This legal regulation will not only improve the efficiency of purebred livestock breeding but also ensure its legality," the Deputy Minister of Economy added.
