ArmInfo. The Armenian authorities are planning to introduce new mechanisms for reimbursing citizens' bank deposits held in the Sberbank of the former USSR, as stated by Arsen Torosyan, the Minister of Labor and Social Affairs of the Republic of Armenia, during parliamentary hearings on the performance of the 2025 state budget.
According to the Minister, 4,010 citizens received compensation last year, totaling 817.2 million drams. The average payout per beneficiary amounted to 199,000 drams. The compensation was allocated to citizens born on or before December 31, 1942.
Torosyan noted that the ministry is receiving a substantial number of inquiries regarding the future of the initiative. In this regard, he pointed out that new mechanisms are currently being prepared to ensure the program's continuation. However, this requires comprehensive research to determine the exact number of eligible beneficiaries, allowing the government to resolve the issue for the remaining segment of citizens using state budget funds.
"We need to assess the actual demand regarding this issue, without which it is impossible to reach a definitive resolution. For this reason, we currently have to allocate these expenses from the state treasury on an annual basis. If the full data were available, the issue could be resolved all at once," the Minister stated.
