
ArmInfo. Construction of a customs and logistics center in Armenia's Syunik region is scheduled to begin in 2027, according to a statement from the RA State Revenue Committee.
According to the source, the Committee signed a contract with the Italian company IRD Engineering to support the project. This, as noted in the statement, marks the launch of the program. Welcoming the event participants, Eduard Hakobyan emphasized the project's strategic importance for Armenia. "The Syunik Customs and Logistics Center is not just a major infrastructure project; it is an important step toward positioning Armenia as a regional logistics hub. The project is also a practical reflection of the RA government's "Crossroads of the World" initiative, as it will be equipped with modern and advanced infrastructure necessary for regional stability and economic cooperation," the head of the State Revenue Committee said, adding that the agreement to support the project's implementation is not only an official document but also a symbol of shared responsibility, mutual trust, and an ambitious development vision. According to representatives of international organizations present at the event, the Syunik Customs and Logistics Center project is an important contribution to regional cooperation and trade facilitation, as well as to infrastructure development.
An agreement to support the project's implementation was signed by David Matevosyan, Secretary General of the State Revenue Committee, and Paolo Orsini, CEO of the Italian company. This large-scale initiative will create a new economic and logistics hub in southern Armenia, aimed at modernizing international cargo transportation and customs services, as well as creating a modern and digital customs environment.
The total cost of the project is ?14.4 million and is financed by loans and grants from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), as well as co-financing from the Armenian government. The center will be built in the area adjacent to the village of Shaki in the Syunik region, near the North-South Highway, and is designed to facilitate cargo transportation to the south by ensuring fast and digitalized customs procedures.

The project includes the implementation of modern customs and logistics solutions, including high-tech X-ray scanning and inspection equipment, truck service and parking areas, administrative and support infrastructure, as well as digital control systems and energy-efficient systems. The design and engineering work for the project has been entrusted to the Italian company IRD Engineering, which boasts international experience, and construction will be carried out in accordance with international FIDIC Yellow Book standards. The project also aims to achieve LEED Green Building certification, which includes energy-efficient and water-saving solutions, the development of green spaces, and the use of renewable energy.
