
ArmInfo. The Armenian pavilion at the Foodex Japan 2026 exhibition was visited by over 20,000 people in just one day, according to the press service of the Viticulture and Winemaking Foundation of Armenia (VWFA).
Among the pavilion's honored guests were former Japanese Ambassador to Armenia Masanori Fukushima and current Armenian Ambassador to Japan Monika Simonyan. Furthermore, Japanese sommelier Kumi Yoshizumi presented Armenian wines to local wine experts, buyers, and other sommeliers at the Foodex Wine Stage. During the tasting presentation, she shared the history of Armenian winemaking, discussed indigenous grape varieties, and high-quality Armenian wines. Armenia is represented by 19 wineries. The exhibition is being held from March 10 to 13 in Tokyo.
It's worth noting that the wine market in Japan has grown by approximately 110% over the past 10 years. Over the past 40 years, consumption has increased sixfold. More than 50% of consumers drink wine, with 76.7% choosing red. Foodex Japan will bring together approximately 3,000 companies from over 80 countries, attract approximately 90,000 visitors, and host approximately 1,400 B2B meetings over four days. The participation of Armenian winemakers was made possible with the support of the Armenian Ministry of Economy and the Armenian Viticulture and Winemaking Foundation.
It's worth noting that, according to the RA Customs Service, in the first half of 2025, Armenia exported 2,100 liters of wine. wine to the Japanese market, (compared to 6 liters in the first half of 2024), with a customs value of $13.3 thousand. Wine production volume at the end of 2025 was 7.7 million, down 23.3% from the previous year.
