ArmInfo. The Asian Development Bank (ADB), with the support of the Government of Canada through the Canada Climate and Nature Fund for the Private Sector in Asia (CANPA), has announced a deal that marks ADB's first local currency loan in Armenia.
According to the ADB Yerevan office, the financing package, comprising an ADB loan equivalent to AMD equivalent to USD 15 million and a USD 4 million CANPA loan, will help Armeconombank to expand financing for micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises, including women-led businesses, and scaling up climate and green lending across the country.
Long-term local currency financing helps reduce foreign exchange risks, attract private capital for climate investments, and strengthen Armenia's transition to a low-carbon and climate-resilient economy.
It is worth noting that the Asian Development Bank (ADB) is Armenia's second largest lender, with a 21.2% stake. The Bank has been working with Armenia since 2005. As of the end of 2025, the Bank had implemented numerous projects in Armenia totaling nearly $2 billion, aimed at developing the transport, financial, energy, water, and other infrastructure sectors.
