ArmInfo. The Armenian government is actively collaborating with its Russian partners, focusing primarily on projects related to the Yeraskh section of the railway bordering with Azerbaijan and the Akhurik section bordering with Turkey. David Khudatyan, Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure of the Republic of Armenia, made this statement to the Armenian Service of Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty.
"I have the impression that, at least in relation to these two sections, we have a certain understanding with the Russian side, and we will reach a definite agreement. I believe we will receive an answer to this question in the coming days. If it works out and they agree, that would be great. We'll continue on the path. And if any problems arise-although, as far as I understand, there shouldn't be any problems that could hinder us, at least with regard to Yeraskh and Akhurik-if such circumstances arise, the Armenian government itself will restore the railway on these sections, as this is one of the key points in the logic of lifting the blockade," the Minister said.
When asked whether the Russian side would invest, Khudatyan replied: "If it's in accordance with the first option I mentioned, then yes. I have the impression that we're close to reaching an agreement on this issue. But since we're talking about two sides, let's not jump the gun."
Recall, earlier, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexei Overchuk stated that Moscow and Yerevan would begin negotiations on restoring two sections of Armenia's railways that are connected to Azerbaijan and Turkey. "In response to the request of the Armenian side and based on friendly and fraternal feelings towards the people of Armenia, the Russian Federation has decided to begin substantive negotiations on the restoration of two sections of the Armenian railway. This will enable their connection with the railways of the Republic of Azerbaijan in the area of [the village] Yeraskh, as well as with the railways of the Republic of Turkey near the village of Akhuryan." These statements were reported by TASS.
