ArmInfo. Armenia reduced sugar imports by 56.6% in the first half of 2024, to 15.2 thousand tons. The customs value of imported sugar decreased by 47.2%, to $10.3 million.
According to the data of the RA Customs Service, 94.1% of this volume (versus 7.9% a year earlier) was Russian sugar, while traditionally the lion's share of sugar was imported to Armenia from Brazil. The remaining volume of sugar came from Belarus (5.4%), as well as from Italy, Mauritius, the Czech Republic, and China. Up to 1 ton of sugar was imported from India, Colombia, Germany, the United Kingdom, Germany, Guatemala, Turkey, Switzerland, France, and Madagascar.
According to the source, Armenia also reduced sugar exports. In particular, in the first half of 2024, volumes fell by 30.2%, amounting to 330.7 tons, with a decrease in customs value by 31.4% to $368.8 thousand. The main volume of exported sugar went to the Russian market (99.3%) and 0.7% to the Georgian market.
