Iranian companies to carry out construction on 32km-long section of Kajaran-Agarak road

ArmInfo. The contractor for the  construction of the 32-kilometer Kajaran-Agarak section (Tranche - 4)  of the North-South highway leading to the border with Iran is a joint  venture of Iranian companies - Abad Rahan Pars International Group  and Tunnel Sadd Ariana, which is carrying out blasting and excavation  work.

According to the press service of the Road Department, it is planned  to build 17 bridges, 2 tunnels (with a total length of 1 km) and 5  interchanges on this section.

Technical supervision of the construction work is carried out by the  Croatian company Institute IGH, Joint- Stock Company for Research and  Development in Civil Engineering.

The construction of the Kajaran-Agarak section is financed by the  Republic of Armenia and the Eurasian Fund for Stabilization and  Development of the Eurasian Development Bank.

Earlier, ArmInfo reported that the investment program of the  North-South road corridor, which was planned to be completed within  4-5 years, spending less than $1 billion, has been implemented by 10%  to date, and the amount of loans attracted by the end of May 2024  amounted to $800.7 million. At the same time, after 12 years, those  responsible for the project are afraid to talk about both the timing  of its completion and its final cost.

North-South is one of the largest projects in the history of  independent Armenia. This road (partly new, partly an expansion of  existing ones) will reduce the distance from the Iranian to Georgian  border from 550 to 460 km and simplify access to the Black Sea not  only for Armenia, but also for India, as well as the countries of the  Persian Gulf. The program was officially launched on September 13,  2012. Then, at the ceremony of laying the first stone on the  Yerevan-Ararat highway section, the head of the Ministry of Transport  Gagik Beglaryan and other responsible persons announced that the  project was planned to be fully completed in 2016-2017.
