Vahan Kerobyan: feasibility study of Dry Port project is being  carried out by Dutch company; results to be ready in a few months

ArmInfo. The feasibility study of the Dry Port project (Gyumri) is being carried out by a well-known  Dutch company, which won the previously announced tender. Minister of Economy of Armenia Vahan Kerobyan announced in the Parliament on May 30 during discussions on the draft implementation of the law "On the  State Budget of 2022".

He stressed that over the next 2-3 months the company will answer the  main question "how justified will investments in the Dry Port project  be?" In this regard, Kerobyan drew attention to the fact that the  preliminary feasibility attractive investments, and interest in the  project from specialized strategic companies that have studied the  package of documents and gave a positive assessment, give reason to  believe that the processes will be successful. "But let's not rush -  "we will cross the bridge when we reach the bridge," he said.

The minister recalled that an Israeli company had previously wanted  to implement this project, however, due to various factors, the  latter abandoned the investment plan, expressing a desire to extend  the implementation period. In this regard, the Armenian government  decided to take the control into its own hands and independently  promote this project, Kerobyan noted.

It should be reminded that a "Dry Port" or an industrial park is  planned to be built on the territory adjacent to the Shirak airport,  which will border both the airport and the railway and the  North-South highway. The "Dry Port" is envisaged as a multifunctional  and multimodal hub to serve those local and international companies  that require an operational procedure to consolidate customs  processes, which can help reduce the latter's operating costs.

The project for the construction of the "Dry Port" in Gyumri was  announced by Minister of Economy Vahan Kerobyan in April 2021. It was  also reported that a working meeting was held at the Russian Trade  Mission to discuss the possibilities of attracting Russian  enterprises to the industrial park being designed in Gyumri.

In the spring of 2022, the Minister of Economy of Armenia held a  meeting with the leadership of the Shirak region, during which he  said that the park provides for the availability of storage  facilities, thanks to which it will be possible to move goods to the  desired directions by air and rail. As the minister said, according  to the set goals, the industrial park "Dry Port" being created in  Gyumri will provide 3% of Armenia's GDP.
