Natural population growth rate decreasing  in Armenia

ArmInfo.  The natural population growth rate in Armenia continues to decline significantly. This is evidenced by data from the RA Statistical Committee.  In particular, in the first quarter of 2025, 7,302 children were born in the country, which is 8.8% lower than the previous year. The birth rate per 1,000 inhabitants for the reporting period was 9.6 per mille, compared to 10.8 per mille a year earlier.

In Q1, Armenia experienced a notable decrease in cognac and wine  production

ArmInfo.  According to the results of Q1 2025, Armenia has seen a decrease in the production of all alcoholic beverages produced in the country, except for whiskey and beer.  This is evidenced by data from the RA Statistical Committee.  Particularly,  cognac production experienced a significant shift from  a 35.5% growth to a 39.4% decline - to 3.2 million liters. Vodka, liqueur and other alcoholic beverages also declined, going from an 8.1% growth to a 30.7% decline - to 214.2 thousand liters. 

In Q1 2025, power generation in Armenia increased by 6.5% per annum

ArmInfo. In Q1 2025, power generation in Armenia amounted to 2,624.8 million kWh, which was by 6.5%  higher than the same period last year (compared to a 0.4% decline a year ago). This is evidenced by data from the RA Statistical Committee.  Specifically, in Q1 of this year, hydroelectric power plants increased their electricity production by 66.3% per annum - to 514.5 million kWh, and the Armenian Nuclear Power Plant - by 0.3% to 950.1 million kWh.  However, thermal power  plants reduced their power generation by 18.6% per annum - to 857.5 million kWh.  The generation of electricity from wind power plants also decreased - by 71.9% per annum to 0.2 million kWh, while solar power plants increased their volume of power production by 97.3% - to 302.5 million kWh. 

Armenia`s metallurgical industry experiences a decline in Q1 2025

ArmInfo.  In Q1 2025, Armenia's metallurgical industry saw a 20% reduction in production compared to the same period in 2024 (against 36% growth a year ago). According to the RA Statistical Committee, the shift from growth to decline is due  to the deterioration in the dynamics of copper and molybdenum  concentrate production, and the ongoing reduction in ferromolybdenum and aluminum foil production.

Armenia`s industrial sector sagging due to declining manufacturing industry volumes

ArmInfo.  In the first quarter of 2025, Armenia's industrial sector experienced a decrease in production volumes by 18.5% per annum (compared to a 30.4% growth in the same period of 2024), totaling about 600 billion drams ($1.5 billion). However, in March alone, industrial production volumes increased by 15.9% to 219.3 billion drams ($558.4 million), as reported by the RA Statistical Committee.  The decline in the annual  dynamics of the industrial sector was primarily due to reduced  volumes in the manufacturing industry and an accelerated decline in the mining industry.

IFC ready to invest in Armenia`s energy, transport sectors

ArmInfo.  The International Finance Corporation (IFC) has expressed its readiness to invest in the energy and transport sectors of Armenia. This was stated by Ivana Fernandez  Duarte, Regional Director of the International Finance Corporation (IFC) in the South Caucasus, at a meeting with the Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure of Armenia David Khudatyan.  As reported by the press service of the Ministry of Territorial Administration of Armenia, the parties also discussed a number of other issues of mutual interest.

Wizz Air opens base in Armenia, launches new flights

Modernization works carried out at National Center for Mental Health

ArmInfo. Investments totaling 4 billion 688.9 million drams are planned for the construction of the  buildings of the National Center for Mental Health under the Ministry of Health of Armenia, 37.12% of which have already been invested, the press service of the Prime Minister reports.  Pashinyan visited the Center, which was modernized within the framework of the Government's program for 2021-2026. Accompanied by the Minister of Health, he toured the center to get acquainted with the work being done.
